Officials voted to redistribute and close the school in the Hudson Valley.
On Tuesday night, the Saugerties Central School District Board of Education approved the redistribution of the tank area. The plan is to close a school.
“Last spring, the Board of Education commissioned the establishment of a stakeholder committee to help the district address the impending budget deficit and to maintain and improve the programming of all students. My administrative team met with faculty, staff, and parents / guardians to gather feedback. , which the community values most in our schools, “said Kirk Reinhardt, Saugerties Central School District Supervisor.” I firmly believe that our redistribution plan will help us embrace and promote these core values. “
The plan is to close a school.
The plan closes Mt. Marion Elementary School on the Glasco Turnpike in Saugerties.
By the fall of the 2022 school year, the Saugerties Central School District will include three elementary schools, from kindergarten to 6th grade.

“The committee has researched three different K-6 models, and we believe this model best fulfills the task set by the Board of Education in the spring of 2021, given the constraints within which we work,” Reinhardt added. “Please note that during the school redistribution process, we are redrawing the boundaries of elementary schools to balance enrollment and class sizes in each elementary school. Although the preliminary redistribution map is circulating, it is not the final map.”
Mt. Marion Elementary School will be handed over to a preschool program.

The district maintains the Cahill, Riccardi and Grant D. Morse Primary Schools.
“We all know how emotional such a change can be, but unfortunately this decision had to be made. I think it will bring huge opportunities for our students that we couldn’t provide before,” Reinhardt concluded. “The last 20 months have presented our local community with a number of challenges and we have worked hard to continue to provide the safest, most educationally rich environment for all of our students to reach their full potential. I am confident we will rise to that challenge again.”
